Thanksgiving Home & Cooking Safety Tips

Thanksgiving: where the turkey is big, the family is bigger, and the potential for kitchen chaos is… well, let’s just say, real. Let’s make sure your home and cooking are as safe as your dessert table is delicious.

Here are Insurcomm’s top tips for a safe and stress-free Thanksgiving:

    1. Don’t Let the Kitchen Burn You Out: Cooking for a crowd is a marathon, not a sprint. Never leave food unattended on the stove (unless you want your pumpkin pie to turn into a pumpkin fire). And if you’re deep frying that turkey, keep it outside—trust us, it’s worth it.
    2. Check Your Oven (and your Smoke Detector): Make sure your oven is clean and in good working order before it gets to work. Also, double-check your smoke detectors—nothing says “Happy Thanksgiving” like your alarm going off just as you’re about to carve the turkey.
    3. Home Sweet (and Safe) Home: With extra guests in the house, ensure your space is ready for a crowd. Clear away any tripping hazards (think rugs, toys, and that one chair you always forget about). And if you’re cooking with candles for ambiance, make sure they’re in safe spots—no one wants an unexpected fire.
    4. Fire Safety Is the Real Dish: Accidents happen, but preparation is key. Keep a fire extinguisher nearby (preferably not in the kitchen, but close enough for easy access). After all, your turkey should be the only thing crispy this holiday.
    5. Keep the Drinks (and Kitchen) in Check: Cooking and drinking don’t always mix. If you’re sipping wine, make sure you’re not too tipsy to handle that hot oven. Designate a sober sous-chef if needed!

This Thanksgiving let’s serve up some safety—because the only thing that should be sizzling is the stuffing, not the house!
